Japanese football team Urawa Red Diamonds has launched a campaign titled 'Project Eagle' to rid its training pitch of ducks.

According to Reuters, the playing surface has been repeatedly damaged by feathers and droppings left by the birds.

Urawa's public relations chief Daisuke Maruyama said: "We have had problems with ducks for a while. They leave their mess on the pitch.

"We've taken a number of measures to clean things up, including falcons and putting out cones on the pitch. The things you have to do sometimes!"

He added: "It seems the ducks feel safe inside the fence which surrounds the training ground. But our measures look like they're slowly bearing fruit."
