Alexander D. Alvarez, of Atmore, is facing up to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to charges he violated several federal acts aimed at protecting rare birds. According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Alvarez admitted to violating the Lacey Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) for illegally selling and possessing the feathers of anhingas and other migratory birds protected under the MBTA.
