Duck has three legs - and four feet

A farmer in China has spoken of his surprise after one of his ducks turned out to have three legs and four feet.

Yang Fuyong, of Linchuan County, Guilin, southern China's Guangxi Province, said the duck was one of a batch of 600 he had bought as ducklings.

While vaccinating them, he noticed one of them had one too many legs - and two too many feet.

He has since sold the ducks but kept the unusual one for a pet.

"I have been raising ducks for more than 10 years but I have never seen anything like this before," he said.

"It has an extra leg behind the other two and that leg has two feet. I'm going to carry on raising it to see how it does."

An official at the local livestock husbandry station said the duck was almost certainly the result of a genetic mutation.

Crocodile Mick plans 'immortality' for mutant croc

RIGHT: "I've never seen anything like it" ... crocodile hunter Mick Pittman displays the crocodile's extra toes. (Mick Pittman)
5 August 2010

By Anthea Kissel

A saltwater crocodile found in the Northern Territory has been described as a "freak of nature".

The half-metre long reptile has sharp spurs protruding from the underside of its back legs.

The five millimetre-long spurs connect to a bone stemming from the crocodile's ankle joint.

"I don't know whether a croc's been playing up with a platypus or not, but it looks a bit funny, I reckon," said crocodile hunter and taxidermist Mick Pittman.

"I've never seen anything like it."

Mr Pittman, known as "Crocodile Mick", says he and his family have been in the crocodile industry for 53 years.

He thinks the spurs might be mutant toes.

"I reckon the way it was sitting on his leg, it would have to hinder his existence," he said.

"He would have to be scratching himself all the time when he was walking.

"You can't see any real use for it.

"It's just a freak of nature."

Mr Pittman says he plans to make the crocodile "immortal".

"He's going to have his gut filled up with sawdust and he's going to sit on a mantelpiece somewhere as a freak.

"So I'll make him look as best as I possibly can."

Dr Grahame Webb from Crocodylus Park in Darwin says the spurs are extremely rare.

"I've seen it once or twice in looking at tens of thousands of hatchlings," he said.

In Pictures: ‘Two Face’ – The Kitten With Two Faces

HERE’S the kitten with two faces. In West Virginia, the kitten has four eyes, two noses and two mouths. the kitten asnswer to the name Two Face.

The kitten has Diprosopus, and creatues suffering from it do not live long.

Animals with the condition rarely survive for very long, but the kitten’s owners are hoping the animal beats the odds.

Says animal services worker Stephanie Gomez:

“There was a lady who called and said she had a two-headed cat, and I really didn’t believe her. I told her give him some milk, and two bottles, cause there are two heads.”

Here’s a gallery of other interesting-faced cats:

Two-headed bobtail lizard found in Australia

Tom Phillips
22nd April, 2010

It's been a while since we've had a decent two-headed animal on these pages. So, without further ado, we proudly present… the two-headed lizard.

The two-headed bobtail (a type of skink native to Australia, also known as the Shingleback) was rescued in Coogee, New South Wales, by workers from a reptile park.

Now housed at the reptile park in Henley Brook, Perth, it's doing well - despite the fact that two-headed lizards tend to not have very long life expectancies.

The lizard - which doesn't just have two heads, but has a set of forelegs on either side of each head - is even able to eat with both mouths.

The major downside of having two heads is that it makes moving around quite difficult, and the larger of the two heads has a tendency to try and attack the smaller head.

The bobtail's brother, who has just the one head, is also housed at the park.

'Evil powers created half-man, half-goat creature'

September 28, 2009

  • Creature born with man, goat features
  • Resembled faun-like animal
  • Died a few hours after birth

AN African village is reportedly shellshocked after the birth of a bizarre faun-like creature said to have the combined features of a man and a goat.

Bild reports the creature, which died just a few hours after birth in Lower Gweru, Zimbabwe, had a huge head and face which resembled a human, as well as goat legs and a tail.

Villagers said the end product was so scary even dogs were afraid to go close to it. They burned the corpse fearing it was an evil sign.

"This is indeed a miracle that has never been witnessed anywhere," elder Themba Moyo said. The goat's owner called police after the birth.

"It’s the first time that my goat did this. I have 15 goats and it’s this goat that gave me birth to most of them. My goats often give birth to sets of twins," he said.

The Zimbabwe Guardian reports that Midlands Governor and Resident Minister Jason Machaya is adamant the creature is the result of a coupling between man and goat.

"This incident is very shocking. It is my first time to see such an evil thing. It is really embarrassing," he reportedly said.

"The head belongs to a man while the body is that of a goat. This is evident that an adult human being was responsible. Evil powers caused this person to lose self control.

"We often hear cases of human beings who commit bestiality but this is the first time for such an act to produce a product with human features."

A vet didn't have the chance to investigate the creature, but after inspecting photos, he told Bild he believed it was a child suffering from hydrocephalus, or water on the brain.

"The condition would have accounted for the abnormally large skull and for the chin, nose, ears and other body parts having shifted during development," he reportedly said.

Half-man, half-goat creatures like fauns and satyrs are popular in Greek and Roman mythology.
