Tiny snails can survive digestion

Scientists found 15 per cent of the sails eaten by Japanese white-eyes survived digestion and were found alive in the birds’ droppings.

Commenting on the study, which was published in the Journal of Biogeography, researcher Shinichiro Wada said: ‘We were surprised that a high rate, about 15 per cent, of snails were still alive after passing through the gut of [the] birds.
