Fears Grow Over Ravenous Coyotes On L.I.

NEW YORK -- A ravenous horde of swimming coyotes is believed to be responsible for the sudden disappearance of nearly 20 cats in a small Long Island community, the New York Post reported Friday.

Shaken pet owners on Fisher's Island, 10 miles (16 kilometers) off of Long Island's North Fork, are no longer letting their felines roam freely after the rash of suspected attacks this past month.

"The community board at our local post office is covered with missing posters for cats," according to Charles Kadushin, whose beloved three-year-old feline, Habibi, vanished in May.

Residents said that the coyotes were making the mile-long swim from Connecticut.
